Bob Roll in California this Saturday
If you live in Costa Mesa, CA or any of the surrounding towns, c'mon down to Two Wheels One Planet on Saturday night. Kryptonite is hosting An Evening with Bob Roll starting at 5pm.
Bob will be talking about his experiences racing in some of the classics as well as his observations commentating on some great Tours now.
And, we all know Bobke isn't shy about sharing his opinions...ask him pretty much anything you want. What does he think about Lance and the comback, Rock Racing and the state of cycling today? Ask him. He'll let you know.

Randomness
Just some random things going on in the cycling world....
Already told you that Lance Armstrong is Twittering. You can follow him here. You don't need an account to do so either.
But....he's got a friend of his to sign up, too. Mr. Taylor Phinney. You can follow him here. According to the tweets, Taylor was in Austin for the Ride for the Roses this weekend and his friend Lance convinced him to Twitter. That's kind of cool.

Interbike East was held last week (while I was out of town...bummer) in Providence. Both Rich at Interbike Times and Tim at Masi have write ups and photos for your viewing pleasure.

2009 Tour de France
So, I guess the 2009 Tour de France route was announced. How do I know? Lance Armstrong is now on Twitter! I'm not kidding. You can follow along with his training, social engagements and even restaurant choices through his tweets.

UPDATE (10/23): USAToday article with Lance makes it seem like he's surprised about "threats" along the roads from crazed fans during stages. He's rethinking this ride there a little bit. How is this different than when he raced before? Stages, particularly in the mountains, have always had passionate fans in the roads yelling in riders ears. I've always found it a little un-nerving, but it's not like this is new. Wonder if Lance is finding training slightly harder than he thought and he's trying to set expectations for his comeback now. Check it out, it's a good read.

Where is Everyone?
Seems like the blog's been quiet for about a week. Why? Just about everyone at Kryptonite was at Interbike - the big industry trade show. I was there this year to attend one and speak on another social media panel, as well as do a live Spokesmen show. It was a great time seeing some old friends.
There's so much to see there, but here are just a few of the things that I came across.

Jelly Belly had a cool motorcycle in their booth. And, free Jelly Bellies.
The pros were there, too. Lance in the Oakley booth.
George Hincapie was at the show, too.
But, the never-ending lines were for Tyler Hamilton newly crowned national champ!

He's Baaaack!!!
Lance Armstrong is going to professionally ride again, folks. What has been rumored for a couple of days now has become official with today's Vanity Fair article. Lance talks about politics (a political run in 2014 is possible), The Lance Armstrong Foundation and returning to cycling. Look for him in the Tour "Day" France next year.

Biking in Boston...and Austin
Got a couple of quick tidbits for you as we get into the middle of Bike to Work week:
This weekend the Boston Globe had a great piece about Specialized creating versions of their new bikes to specifically fit different cities around the world. They've got one for New York, London, Seattle, Chicago and, yes, our little Boston!
It's a purple bike and seems fairly cool:
"There are big nods to messenger culture, including drop handlebars in bare chrome, a white chain (yes, it's really white), and white-painted rims and hubs. Flip the rear wheel around, and you can ride the bike as a fixed-gear, meaning you're always pedaling, whether you're accelerating or slowing."
Cooler still....our friend Chris is quoted as the counter to the 'fab' review...he's a Stah (as we say in Boston)....
Chris Rowe, a messenger who used to paint frames at Independent Fabrication, the high-end bike maker in Somerville, sums up a few common complaints. "The tribal graphics are kind of weird," he says of the paint job. "The track handlebars are wrong - for messengers, three-speed or downhill-type bars have been a Boston tradition since at least the early 1990s. And most of us ride steel frames - they break less than aluminum, and they're comfier on Boston streets."
Today, the Boston Globe has a piece about Mayor Menino taking a 'ceremonial ride' to kick off Bike Week in the city that has vowed to become bike friendly. It's kind of funny that the Mayor only rode a half mile yesterday since he truly is someone who rides his bike for exercise throughout the summer. Allez, Mr. Mayor!
Oh, and the Masiguy, Tim Jackson, has been crowing about Mellow Johnny's carrying Masi bikes (and that is completely fantastic!), but we've got some crowing to do of our own....turns out Mr. Armstrong's new shop not only carries Masi, but they also are an exclusive Kryptonite dealer. Yea...we're into world domination, too, Jackson!!

Lance Breezes Through Boston Marathon
Lance Armstrong just finished the Boston Marathon in a time of 2:50:58! Dang, that's pretty good. Since he was such a billy goat on the bike in the mountains, he must have thrived on Heartbreak Hill.
He finished 488th overall and ran at an average pace of 6:32 miles per hour. That qualifies him for next year's Boston - wonder if he'll be back...

Happy Marathon Day!
It's Marathon Monday here in the Baystate (Massachusetts) - the 112th running of the Boston Marathon. Wheelchair racers start at 9:25am, women at 9:35am and 10am for the men. The US Women's Olympic trials were held here yesterday. Congrats to Deena Kaster, Lewy Boulet, and Blake Russell on making the Olympic team! I know Blake's coach, Bob Sevene ("Sev"), quite well so congrats to them! Sev's coached many Olympians over the years, but having Blake qualify in the marathon reminds me that he coached someone else in the marathon back in 1984 and she came away with the Gold medal...yes, Ms. Joan Benoit. Go Blake!
I have a special place in my heart for the Boston Marathon - it's where I started my career, made a lot of friends (like Sev) and had a lot of fun. You can read about my favorite part of Race Weekend and Race Day on my blog. It was a magical time.
I wish Dave McGillivray (race director), Sue Smith (start line announcer) and all of the marathon volunteers and officials a wonderful day.
To the wheelchair racers and runners - I wish you all personal best times! Including one Lance Armstrong, who will be in the pack.
Update: Lance Armstrong passed through the half marathon at 1:26. He's running at a 6:38 per mile pace, which gives him a projected time of 2:53, which is under the 3 hours he wants to run. Remember, he's still got the infamous Heartbreak Hill to go.

VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
Today's the day in the United States that they call "Super Tuesday". Although some states have held caucuses and others have had their presidential primary, the majority of the states have their primary today.
I can not stress enough the importance of voting today. I'm not going to tell you who I voted for or who I think you should vote for. To me, politics and religion are personal things - everyone has the issues that are important to them and should vote that way.
We know the issue closest to Lance Armstrong's heart - he's even had an ad created....

I chose to show this ad because it's not endorsing one candidate or another. It's just showing what is important to Lance and may give an indication of how he's voting, but the message is clear - VOTE. Whomever you vote for, just let your voice be heard.
This is not a "duty", it's a right. We all have it here in the US and we should take the right seriously. It's not hard to do. Watch a debate, go to a few websites, choose a candidate that has the most in common with your issues, get to your polling location and vote.
I voted this morning and it couldn't have been a more pleasant experience. It was raining here in Massachusetts (but you won't melt, trust me!) but I made my way to the senior center in town. The ladies that greeted me were a hoot! The man who took my ballot thought he was a comedian (he was kind of funny) and poof, I was done! It took me no more than 10 minutes. Seriously. 10 minutes to have my voice heard.
You may think you don't have that 10 or 15 or even 20 minutes, if there is a line. But, I'll bet you will have that amount of time to complain when your candidate doesn't do well....c'mon, you know the saying, "if you don't vote, don't complain later".
Go. Vote.

Videos to Start The Week
Hope you all had a great weekend. I'm just getting fired up for the first full week I've had since...what...mid-December? It's gonna be a long one so I thought I'd start off the week with two cool videos. One for the bicycle enthusiast and one for you motorcycle fans.
The first is from New Year's Eve in Las Vegas. If you didn't hear, Australian Robbie Maddison broke the world record for the longest jump on a motorcycle. He went over 322 feet and seriously landed that bike. No wobble, nothing. Did he go celebrate right after? No, he does it again! Both jumps are on the video, it is fantastic to watch.
The second is from our friends at Bicycle Retailer & Industry News this morning. Here's a link to the newest Lance Armstrong commercial. I haven't seen it on television yet, but it's pretty funny. Yes, Lance being funny - I was a little surprised, too. But, it's worth the 35 seconds to watch "the warrior" in action.
