A Word From The Ladies

OK, so you already heard from Jody Perewitz about the great time had at Scuderia in San Francisco recently. Well, Nicole Roesch also had a few things to say about the event, most specifically that she was really impressed by the enthusiasm and knowledge that the women who joined them for the evening already had about motorcycles - not the least of which was the fact that the fashion trends really do start on the West Coast ladies....there was no question about the strength of the bonds these women shared with their bikes! The ladies gave her some great websites that Nicole has already bookmarked for her own reading pleasure and thought you may want to know about them too...so here they are, enjoy!

www.carlaking.com -- a book of Carla's riding adventures on a Russian sidecar across the US. Thanks, Carla for donating the book for the raffle!
http://www.nebcom.com/noemi/moto/sbl.sbl.html -- a list of motorcycles that accommodate the 'vertically challenged' rider!

Locking in San Francisco

by Jody Perewitz

Nicole Roesch and I were in San Francisco last week for an event at a Kryptonite Dealer. Before
we went to the dealership Nicole and I decided to take a walk around Union Square. Immediately I noticed a bike cabled and locked to a pole with a Kryptonite lock!

Within the next few blocks we saw many more bikes and almost all of them had Kryptonite locks! Wahoooo!

There was some old ratty bikes locked that looked like the lock cost more than the bike but hey in an economy where gas is $5 a gallon 2-wheels, no matter how they look will have to do.

I did find it funny to see so many bikes in San Fran. The hills in the city are hard to walk up
never mind bike up! I give those people a lot of credit; they must have some strong calves!

Later in the day we found out that things seem to disappear in San Fran if it isn't locked
properly. Well as we know if you want something to still be there when you return, use a
Kryptonite!

Perewitz Bike Night Tonight

So, this is an email I got from Jody...

Just a reminder tonight is Perewitz Bike Night from 6-9pm. We will be having Steve Leahy doing airbrush tattoos, Dante on the grill with burgers, dogs, and stuffed quahogs, DJ Lou playing some tunes, the Kris Holmes Ride will be selling tickets to their event, the Debut of the Perewitz "Ghetto Taxi", Roof Raffles, cool bikes, burnouts and much more.

I wish I wasn't in New Jersey, because I so want to know what the Ghetto Taxi is!

This is the first Perewitz Bike Night I've missed in 3 years :( BUT, Tim will be there with Jody, Dave, Susan, Kory and the gang. It's a GREAT night for a ride. Go on and see them all.

New Home Security

by Jody Perewitz, Team Kryptonite

I recently bought a house with my boyfriend Kory. It is the first house for both of us. It is a great house with a big yard. The house was a bank forclosure so we don’t know anything about the house and wanted to change the locks ASAP. Also it has a big fenced in yard with an inground pool or as we call it a lagoon. The first thing we did was change the locks.

We put deadbolts on all the doors because they didn’t have any and changed the locks on the fence. I didn’t have a key to the locks on the fence so my brother and I thought that we were going to have to bring cable cutters. What were we thinking?? It’s not like they were Kryptonite locks. I hit the lock once with a hammer and it busted off! OK so I did hit it with all my might because I didn’t think it would be that easy but the second one I tapped it and the cheap lock popped open. So much for security!

Now we have keyed alike Kryptonite locks on the gates to assure that no one will get into the back yard.

I also installed a Schlage Keypad Deadbolt on the front door. It is just temporary till I get my matching door handle and keypad lock from Schlage. The keypad locks are one of the best things invented!

We have contractor’s coming in and out and it’s difficult to get to the house when we are working so instead I just give them the code and they let themselves in! When all the work is done we can change the code!

I feel safe knowing that no one will break into our house knowing that we don’t live there yet! When I get my new front door lock I will post a picture.

Jody & Nicole at Barb's Harley TONIGHT

Jody Perewitz and Nicole (Hoffman) Roesch are off to the Philly area tonight to participate in another Women's Riding Essentials evening. They will be at Barb's Harley Davidson in NJ, just outside Philly. You can see the event poster and all the info in Barb's "Women Only" section of her website. Barb just ROCKS!

If last week is any indication of how these events are going, tonight is going to be a night you don't want to miss.

Oh What A Night...

The Women's Riding Essentials at Perewitz Cycle Fab last night was nothing less than fantastic! We had a great group of women ranging from veteran riders to completely new riders. Some have a motorcycle, some are on their 3 or 4th motorcycle, one just bought her first and a couple more are looking to purchase their first.

Not only did Nicole and Jody share their experiences and wisdom, but the camaraderie of the women was indescribable. They listened to each other, shared their experiences and formed new friendships that, I believe, will become new riding partners. I truly feel lucky to have shared in the evening.

So, Nicole, are you going to be kick starting Jody's Panhead?

Nicole fascinated us all by sharing her experiences of racing on the high banks of Daytona International Speedway.

Both ladies talked about being safe on the motorcycle and wearing the proper gear - helmets, gloves, jackets etc. They both want to be as protected as they can be when riding. Bright colors, like Jody's Icon jacket, are recommended so others on the road can see you.

It was a beautiful evening so we conducted the evening outside at the picnic tables. Susan and Jody put out a spread that would have fed an army! We ate and talked about motorcycles for hours on a lovely, relaxing June evening. How much better does it get than that?

Well.....it did....

At the end of the evening, Jody gave us a tour of the "inner sanctum" of Perewitz Cycle Fab. We got to see Jeff's new bike being built, Jody's Buell, some of the other projects they have going on (that shall remain secret!) and then....Jody showed us her newest creation. She's building a custom bike from the ground up. It should be completed by Sturgis. Here's a sneak peek just for the ladies.

We got to see it from all angles and hear all the plans she has for it, but we'll leave you with just the, unfinished, front view. I'll leave out the details about what's unfinished on the front. You'll just have to stay tuned over on the Plog (Perewitz blog) to see the finished masterpiece. Or, head to Sturgis to see it for yourself!

All in all, it was a fantastic evening!

Thank you to everyone at Perewitz Cycle Fab who helped to make this a great night - it was mostly Jody, Susan, Jaren and De...but, if truth be told the guys pitched in on the set up a little bit. Thank you all!

And thanks to the ladies who attended. It was great to meet you all! Safe riding!

Nicole and Jody will be talking to women riders about a whole host of things - how they got started - some safety tips - gear tips - riding tips - simple maintenance and answer your questions.

Jody's got some great raffle prizes (she always does!) and food coming. Susan, broken hand and all, is even making some of her famous meatballs.

Come on and join us at 6pm. Address in Bridgewater on the Perewitz site, but if you need more info, just give them a call. 508-697-3595.

See you there!

Perewitz Custom Seats

by Jody Perewitz

We recently formed a business relationship with Continental Seating out of Texas. Last week while Dave was in Dallas, he went to the factory where our new custom chairs are made. We will be selling these theatre chairs with the Perewitz logo on them or your bike embroidered on it!

The chairs arrived here Thursday. Dave ripped open the boxes and immediately took a seat! We have one set up in the "living room" at the shop and the other one will be going on the road with us. There are 2 different models. One is a basic but still nice model, then there is a model with chrome legs, massage, heat, and wicked nice leather!

We took one with us this past weekend to a show on Long Island. It was a big hit! Everyone loved it. It also added a nice custom touch to our booth. We had Michele Smith from American Thunder lounging in it for a little while.

It was tough to conduct business while sitting in the chair… Jeff was able to do it though! We couldn’t get Jeff out of the chair.

The show was really busy so Dave was constantly talking, taking pictures, and signing autographs with customers otherwise I would bet he would be in the chair.

You can purchase these chairs for your home theatre, office, living room, etc. We will have pricing for these ASAP, so check our website for more info!

My First Tattoo – Perewitz Style

by Craig Glab, Central Regional Manager

Dave Perewitz and I went to Acme Tattoo the Saturday of Donnie Smith’s show in St. Paul, MN last month. Nolan, the owner of Acme Tattoo, measured my arm with wax paper. When that was complete he handed it over to Dave, the King of Flames.

Dave began to draw out the flames on the paper that would eventually make it to my arm.

But it didn’t happen that Saturday because Nolan was pre-booked with all the Hamsters that were in town. Nolan is known all over the United States for being the best. A lot of the Hamsters will only have Nolan tattoo them. Dave got a new tattoo as well as Susan, Kory and Jody.

I had to come back Tuesday, April Fool’s Day. There was non-stop joking in the building. It took three nights to complete. On Tuesday night I sat for 2 hours, Wednesday night I sat for 1 ½ hours and Thursday night Nolan finished it in 1 ½ hours.

Don Shipman sat with me for a couple of nights. Talk about team support.

Tim Remus was there Tuesday and Wednesday night, too. He was shooting for a new tattoo book that he’s doing. I think mine will make the book!

When I left Nolan’s his wife gave me a bunch of temporary tattoos for my boys. We had a great time with them this past weekend. They had tattoos all up their arms, too.

I love my first tattoo. Right now it is scabby so it doesn’t look as bright and vivid as it did those nights, but it will be ready to add to it when I go back up that way in June.

Newest Icon Team Member

Look who is stylin' in some new Icon gear....Ms. Jody Perewitz! Seems like the folks at Icon are realizing what we already know - Jody is a great addition to any team! Congrats, Jody!

So, do you think that Jody will start doing stunts like fellow Icon rider, Jason Britton?

Always wear your helmet folks!

Celebrity Choppers/Thug and Streets

If you follow along over on the Plog (the Perewitz blog), you have seen the evolution of their customer's Doug and Pete to Thug and Streets.
Doug and Pete are both Perewitz customers who just love, love, love their motorcycles. Somehow, I'm not exactly sure how....they were dubbed with "biker names" at the Boston Motorcycle Show and Thug and Streets were born (all in good fun!) They went to Daytona with their biker names, hung out down there for a week with the gang and are now each contributing to the Plog. They are becoming celebrities in their own right for goodness sake. Move over Dave and Jody - Thug and Streets are comin' through!
Thought you'd want to see their rides since everyone always wants to catch a glimpse of what celebrities ride. I took these when I was down at the shop last weekend.

Here's Streets' ride - might look black, but that is actually a very cool, deep blue. Gorgeous!

Here's Thug's flamed out ride, done by the King of Flames himself!

With all kidding aside, these are great guys and I always enjoy seeing them at Perewitz events. It's come to my attention recently that Doug Robinson (aka Thug) has a son who has recently been deployed to Afghanistan. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Lend a Helping Hand - for Free

This week quite a few things have come my way that consistently make me think, "I'm pretty lucky and have a pretty good life." After yesterday's reminders at every turn, I decided to write about a few ways that we can all give back that cost us NOTHING except a few clicks of a mouse - maybe 30 seconds in total (unless you get addicted to one, but we'll get there in a minute). Costs you nothing...and gives you a warm fuzzy....try one or more of these things daily....

The week kicked off with a reminder email that this is MS Awareness Week. There were seven calls to action - one each day. I think I will hit 2, although I tried to hit 3 and am still working on that. One is to tell your friends to visit their site and grow awareness - so, I'm telling you....and ask that you tell people, too, on your blog or by having a conversation with your friends. Sign up for a walk - they are usually 6 miles and so much fun to do if you have friends with you. How do I know? I've done one the last 2 years. Can't walk that far? Volunteer. Or, like I said, just tell your friends and help grow awareness. Why is this important to me? Three fantastic people that I hold very near and dear to my heart are living with this disease - one, my cousin, has lived with it for over 30 years and he's one of the most amazing people I've ever met. And, yes, I'd think that even if we weren't related!

The week continued with a great email from Women's Adventure Magazine. Fabulous publication, by the way, founded by a dynamic woman who happens to live with MS, too. Nasty disease gets around, doesn't it? Anywhoooo....the email newsletter had a link to Free Rice. I was curious so I clicked...and became slightly addicted. It's an educational way to give free grains of rice to the UN World Food Program. There's a word on the screen and you need to choose from the list what it means. For every correct answer, 20 grains of rice will be donated. You can keep playing for as long as you want and it keeps your total. If you get one wrong, nothing is deleted and you get another chance. Go on and try it out...it's slightly addicting...and educational...and good for the world. And Free!

Jody forwarded information to me yesterday about "Paws for a Cause", which is a fundraiser for the Just a Touch Rescue organization here in New England. If you are an animal lover, please check them out. Read the stories and find ways to help. There are many ways to help on their site that are free - you can volunteer your time, adopt a pet (ok, so that will ultimately cost some money, but the love you get back outweighs the cost!), donate an auction item or shop at one of their supporters. When you shop for things that you might normally purchase anyway, the rescue gets a portion of the sale.

And, last, but not least, by any means. Every day, I visit the Animal Rescue Site and click on the big purple "Give it's Free" button. No signing up. No follow up email. Just click and food is given to animal shelters. Seriously, it can't be easier. Just add this to your favorites and visit every day - one click per day, per computer. You can also purchase fun things from the site and by doing so, you give additional food to rescued animals.

While you are feeling so good about your free food for the animals, check out the other sites that are associated with this one where you can click on a button and give towards free mammograms, protect the Rain Forest, give free child healthcare and give free books to children. This is a no-brainer. When you fire up your computer each morning, go to this site and click through the tabs. It will take you all of 30 seconds. Warning, though, you might actually feel good and get a smile on your face by helping so many in such a short amount of time.

So, if you think you have a good life, or are luckier than most, think about doing one or more, or all, of these things. You'll feel good about yourself and be doing good in this world, too. Just my thoughts for a Friday. Have a great weekend, everyone.

Dealer Expo - Day 1

We're still in Indy for the Dealer Expo show. Day 1 is down and in the books. Sorry I didn't post yesterday or this morning, but it's been pretty hectic.

I didn't tell you yesterday that every time I was in the lobby on Thursday I saw Jason Britton every time I passed through the lobby. Saw him yesterday morning, too. Haven't seen him since. I'll bet he's been swamped at the show. It's fun to see the folks you see on TV all the time here at the show walking around - I've seen Rick Smits, too. He's hard to miss since he's so dang tall! He's here every year.

Since it's late and we just got back from dinner, I'm going to do a little pictorial for you. Enjoy!

Set up continues....

Nicole's new racing bike was waiting for us in the booth on Friday morning!

Soon Nicole, Steve and Shane came to change some decals on the bike and move it around the booth for us. There was no way I was going to move her bike or even have one of our guys do it.

Do you ever notice that when you clean your house or room that it always seems to get worse before it gets better? Same thing applies with setting up a booth. It looks like a wreck while it's being set up. But, don't worry, Don and Roby had a method to their madness.

Craig worked hard setting displays.

The night before every show opens we have a booth meeting. It's a time when we can make sure everyone is in town and on the same page for the next day. Here Don talks about some of the new products to Ross, Craig, Eric, Gustavo, Roby and Tim.

SHOW TIME! DAY 1

Nicole's motorcycle in its rightful place at the corner of the booth where everyone can see it.

Look! The product actually made it to the walls! I told you there was a method to the madness.

Karen and Nicole visit for a bit before the show really gets crankin'

Nicole and Dave must have hand cramps tonight. They signed so many posters today!

Last year Dave introduced us to Matt Hotch who is so nice! It was good to see him back again this year for a visit.

Jody, Nicole and I had a special treat today. We had a civilized lunch for a change. That doesn't happen often at trade shows! We met up with Mary from Dealernews and had a lovely lunch. She enjoyed hearing about the Women's Riding Essentials classes that Jody and Nicole are going to be doing that she sent a photographer over to take some shots of them in the booth.

Tim was the photographer's assistant during the gal's photo shoot. He did a great job...at least I think he did, I haven't seen the photos yet.

Had a nice chat with Ryan at CycleWorld today. He introduced me to Roland Sands and showed me this motorcycle that he customized for the Ride for Kids. They were selling raffle tickets, which they've been doing for awhile now, for a chance to win the motorcycle. All the proceeds go to the Ride for Kids. Yup, I got my tix.

Here's the Perewitz motorcycle we have in the booth. Tim and Eric find a lull in the crowd to check it out themselves. You want to talk draw to your booth? This is it! Crazy amounts of people have been around this motorcycle all day.

Ok, that's it for the pictures for now....off to get some sleep before I need to be up again early tomorrow morning to be to the show by 8ish. More tomorrow night after Jeff Gordon wins the Daytona 500!

Powersports Trade Show - Set Up

Hello from Indianapolis everyone!

We are here for the Dealer Expo powersports trade show. We've been making the trek out here for years and years and I've attended every year but one of the eight years I've been here.

I arrived yesterday to do a lot of little things that need to get done before the rest of the team and our guests arrive. Pick up badges for the team, deliver our guests' badges to the front desks of their hotels, check and confirm all reservations in person, get the packages that I sent to myself at the hotel and go over to the booth to see how it is all going.

I am always fascinated at the amount of work it takes to put up a booth. Now, in Vegas we have a "double decker" booth so I understand that work to make it structurally sound. But, all booths take time and expertise to put them up. Here's a little pictorial of my visit to the show floor yesterday.

I'm staying at the Marriott which connects to the convention center through a walkway over the road. This is fabulous since it is always cold at this show (it is February after all!). My room looks out over the walkway, actually. But, this is the view fromthe walkway yesterday. The flags on the light poles let you know that there is a show going on, if the line of trucks and trailers didn't give that away!

Getting through the show floor on set up days is a challenge. You can see where you want to go for the most part, but you can't get there. Crates and boxes and tools and everything else you can think of is all over the entire footprint of the show floor. Sometimes you have to climb over things to get where you want to go.

Here are some of the crates that our booth ships in and skids of product wrapped in the black there.

More crates...getting emptied to make the walls of the booth....

The walls are up! They were just putting the slat wall up when I left yesterday afternoon. I felt like I was just about to become an obstacle for them as they were about to tear into more crates to put together our reception desk. So, I vacated and came back to deliver badges and check my emails. Remember, the show still goes on back in the office and the rest of the world so you need to keep up with that, too, while you are gone.

When I go back today the slat wall will be up, the reception desk will be done, the shelves in the storage room will be built and the graphics will be up. I'll get more photos as the process goes along.

So...do you think the chain is the only new product we have? Nah....we've got more...here's another sneak peek of some products we'll be showing starting tomorrow (yikes!).

New disc lock -- small, compact, easy breezy to use. It will be out later this year.

No, we haven't started to create foot pegs....well, not exactly...this is a foot peg AND a disc lock. Really. Know how you hate to have a disc lock because you might forget it and try to ride off without taking it off (or maybe you've actually done that???). This little guy will make sure you never do that again. Kind of clever, huh?
Ok, off to do a few things and then head to the show floor to see how the construction is going. Ross and Don will be here soon to set the product walls....then Nicole arrives and her motorcycle, too...then Jody comes with the Perewitz custom motorcycle....then the rest of our team arrives for a booth meeting and before you know it, it will be tomorrow and the doors will open! Yikes, lots to do before then!
Have a great Friday everyone. Hope to see some of you this weekend.

Northeast Motorcycle Expo

The Northeast Motorcycle Expo in Boston this past weekend was PACKED. Let me say that again...PACKED! It was so packed on Sunday, the second and last day of the show, that they extended the show by an hour.

Team Kryptonite was well represented in the Perewitz Cycle Fab booth. Obviously, the master of ceremonies, Dave, was busy, busy, busy both days. This is, after all, their home show and just about everyone "knows" Dave. And a good few were wearing Perewitz shirts and hats.

Dave signing autographs

But, there were other motorcycle builders there, including Billy Lane. Here's the chopper in his booth...

The newest Team Kryptonite member, Jody Perewitz, was working to put a motorcycle together with Sara Liberte during the show. As the "Garage Girls" they are putting together a motorcycle at each of the Northeast Motorcycle Expo stops (same bike, torn down and put back together). They do it in less than 2 days! You can win the motorcycle, too. Just buy a $10 ticket, with the money going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Good cause, sweet bike! I bought a couple of tickets. We'll see...

New Garage Girls merchandise

Jody, working hard

Sarah, doing her part!

I spied Jody giving Pete an autograph

Whenever you go to these shows you see budding celebrities, like Jody and Sarah, but you also see the tried and true celebs, too. Here are both Susan Perewitz (l) and Barb Borowiec, owner of Barb's Harley Davidson in NJ. It was a treat to see Barb because I hadn't seen her in quite some time. You might just be hearing more about Barb here soon.....stay tuned. Maybe we can even get her to do an Unbreakable Bonds story...what do you think....I'll work on it.

Yup, they are celebs, too, in my book

I didn't take many motorcycle photos...seriously, when you are in a booth with the best why do you need to look around, right? But, this caught my eye from Irish Choppers. Green happens to be my favorite color, personally. I just love this color combination on this bike...

Yes, that's a shot glass at the top of the tank.

We hope you made it to the show and stopped by to say "hi" to Roby, Eric, Dave, Jody, Susan and myself. Maybe you even saw Louie, Cheech and Zipp. If you did, you saw that Zipp used up a lot of energy greeting people so by the end of the day he was a little pooped....

Thanks to all of you who came out. And, of course, to the Perewitz crew who are always wonderful hosts - we love being part of your booth!

Women's Riding Essentials Class

I think I promised to tell y'all this yesterday, but we are getting ready for a trade show and it's hectic here. Sorry for the delay.

We are really happy to announce Kryptonite's "Riding Essentials for Women" class. That's right. We know you ladies are out there. We know you are either thinking about buying your first motorcycle/getting your mc license or you have just purchased a motorcycle. You've got a few questions to get you going, but the only way to learn is to ask 'the guys'. Hmmm...sometimes that's intimidating, right? We've got the solution!

Nicole Hoffman and Jody Perewitz will be leading four 1-2 hour "Riding Essentials for Women" classes at select shops around the country. Gee, guess where the first one will be? C'mon...you know the answer to this one....yup, right at Perewitz Cycle Fab in June. We'll keep you posted here as to the date.

It's a FREE class for women to come out and learn from two ladies who are not only great riders, but are a wealth of information. They bring some serious talents to the table - safety tips, simple maintenance, info about riding gear you might need, resources available (online and at tracks) and, of course how to keep your ride safe and secure.

So, if you are a gal who wants to get more into riding, stay tuned....these ladies will not only share their experiences and tips, but they'll answer your questions, too. Any question you have about their backgrounds, Nicole's racing, Jody's building of motorcycles, or how to get on a bike for the first time - they'll answer them all.

We want to bring more women into shops and help put more women on motorcycles. It's not just about creating a pink product (no, no pink locks coming), it's about assisting women in this fun adventure.

Now, just to be fair, I was totally scooped on our own news. Thanks to Marilyn at Ironworks Magazine and Genevieve at Womenridersnow.com for supporting our efforts! And, I believe Ms. Jody scooped me, too, just now.

It's Official!!! Jody Perewitz is a member of Team Kryptonite!

As I inferred a little over a month ago...Ms. Jody Perewitz has now become an official member of Team Kryptonite!

We've been working with Jody in an "unofficial" capacity for a couple of years now, but it was time to make it official. There are some really cool things we'll be doing with Jody this year. More to come on that tomorrow.

Karen says it best, "Our partnership with Jody will help us bring the message of security to an ever expanding audience that we may not have been successful at targeting before – the woman motorcycle rider. We all look forward to having a long relationship with Jody.”

So, yes this means y'all get more Jody on the blog, too!

If you'd like to meet Jody and welcome her to this crazy crew, she'll be at the Northeast Motorcycle Expo at the Bayside Expo Center in Boston this weekend. Details to the side here.

Welcome to the gang Jody! We're "wicked" glad you're on board.
