Economic Stimulus H-D Style

Exciting news from Milwaukee...Harley-Davidson will be introducing a more affordable Sportster, the Iron 883, with a price tag of around $7900. That should keep that freedom feelin' within reach of a lot more riders this year!

We Have a Winner from Lowe's Motor Speedway!

We had such a great time at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday with all the NASCAR fans! We felt right at home with all of the Harley Davidson and Sturgis shirts we saw, too. We had great conversations with folks about their motorcycles, ATVs and even bicycles. It was a great day. Ok, it could have been better if Jeff Gordon pulled out a win, but it was a good night for him in the points and he even lead for a bit to get those all important 5 bonus points!

If you stopped by to see us...thanks! You couldn't have missed us, right? We were directly in front of the main, Speedway Blvd entrance. We just thought that was cool!





We also were running a contest which tons of people entered. We are giving away a New York Chain, New York Disc Lock, Evolution Mini and a Superman padlock along with an Ingersoll Rand Thunder Gun. No, we are not giving away the Club Car...sorry. We'd like to have that ourselves, but it was only on loan and is already back at its home at Club Car.

Harley’s 105th Birthday

I had the liberty of attending Harley Davidson’s 105th Anniversary last month in Milwaukee. It was beautiful weekend weather wise. They could not have gotten better days. People and bikes were everywhere you went around Milwaukee.

I did a seminar with Sara Liberte at House of Harley on Friday. The crowd they had was awesome. I couldn’t believe for a Friday how busy they were. It was like a mini Sturgis. I figured with a slow economy and with numbers down at Sturgis it wouldn’t be that busy but I was proven wrong!

On Saturday and Sunday I was at Hal’s Harley-Davidson for Gina Wood’s All Women Bike Build. Sara and I joined Laura Klock and the crew from Gina Wood’s Open Road Radio to build a bike live on stage. Sara, Laura and I worked Saturday and Sunday on the rigid custom in front of a great crowd. People were asking questions, watching us, and listening to the funny antics of all of us on the microphone.

Gina, Dozer and Ideal Dave broadcasted live from Hal’s on Sunday. It was fun to listen to the chit chat with people. After the radio show the motorcycle roared to life. The motorcycle will be raffled with the proceeds the go to breast cancer.

After Sara and I were done at Hal’s we went on a drive by the factories with our great tour guides, Cindy from Biker Incite, her husband Mike and nephew Jake. We drove to one of the Harley factories in Franklin. I have to say it wasn’t what I expected but the next factory was!

We went to the Harley factory in Milwaukee. It was very cool, an old brick building with cool signs and architecture. Next we went to the HD museum. It was wicked cool! We didn’t get to go inside which I would have loved to do, because it was about 11pm but just seeing the outside and the cool sculpture by Jeff Decker was interesting. Milwaukee has a lot to offer beside Harley if you ever get a chance to go.

Overall it was a great trip to Ol’ Milwaukee, I am glad that I had the opportunity to go.

THIS WEEKEND

There are so many things to do this weekend....here are only a few of the VERY coolest!

BOB ROLL at Landry's Boston store. Friday night at 7pm. C'mon out. Roby, Eric and I will all be there, too.....but we won't be offended when you tell us that you're there to see Bob...

Barb's Harley-Davidson in New Jersey is having their annual Open House on Saturday. Dave Perewitz will be there -- and, bonus....Susan and Jaren will be there, too!

Austin's latest bike shop, Mellow Johnny's, is opening on Saturday at 7am. They expect "special guests." Why's that so important? Lance Armstrong owns the joint. You figure it out. If you go let us know how it was....and take photos that you can share.

There's Cyclism Sunday on Versus! The Giro is going on, don't cha know!

And, of course, on Sunday it's Mother's Day. Celebrate by going on a Tour Day Neighborhood with mom. Just please make us and your mother happy and WEAR A HELMET, please!

Craig's Bobber Project - Part 2

I’ve been working on my house so much throughout the cold winter that I haven’t been working on the motorcycle as much as I’d like. I’ve been painting and carpeting the inside of my house this winter.

But here are some updated photos of the Bobber Project. As you can see, I switched the motor and transmission to all ready polished Altima 113” motor and polished 6-speed transmission instead of an 80 cu inch Satin Harley Davidson motor. So now I have more performance in that little bike. I’ll peel the tires off of it. I just sold the other motor.

I just put the rims and tires on this last week. They are from Roland Sands and Metzler white wall tires. I mounted them last Friday after work.

I’m switching out the gas tank because it looks too tiny on that bike. I’m going to get a Sportster tank when I get back from my next 2-week trip. Drill some holes, take it apart and send it off to be painted this time…really.

My goal is to have it done by May.

Happy Birthday Elvis!

As a kid there was a lot of music at my house - lots of "country & western" music, but some good ole fashion rock n' roll, too. One of the possessions that my dad loved most was his collection of original Sun Records with Elvis Presley. Needless to say, we listened to Elvis a lot. Still like the guy and he's on my iPod. Times have changed in how we listen to music, but not the type we truly have an affection for throughout the years.

I'm not one who believes Elvis is alive - but each year I do think of him on his birthday. Kind of corny I know, but....here's to you, big guy. Happy Birthday.

Perewitz Bike Night - A Pictorial

Tim and I had a great time at the Perewitz Bike Night last night. We'd estimate that over 500 motorcycle enthusiasts joined in the fun on a beautiful, summer evening.

I walked around with my camera for a bit to give you a feel for the evening. Enjoy!

Dave just finished Brian G's new motorcycle with the Hamster logo on the tank and all. Brian was voted into the elite motorcycle club last summer at Sturgis and is very proud of this honor.

There was a great antique bike area, too. Check out some of

these great machines. Oil drips and all.

There were all types of rides - big and small.

As the night progressed, the attention turned to the Burnout Pad. Two of Dave's new friends put on quite a show.

The guys gave the crowd what they wanted and one of the rear tires showed the result of the effort when it was all said and done.

All in all, it was a fun night with tons of bikes, the next generation of riders wandering around and even dogs that got into the spirit of things.

But in the end....everyone had to get on the road to go home...even Ms. Harley.

We've Come a Long Way!

This is a photo of one of our early motorcycle locks. This version started to be developed in 1979 and was one of the locks that started our long-standing partnership with the great Harley Davidson. This lock hit the market in the early 80s. Look how big it is! Wow. But, believe it or not, it was in use until a couple of months ago. Still works like a charm.
