It's been no secret to anyone who knows me or reads this blog that I'm a fan of Tyler Hamilton. Now I know a lot of you have other opinions of Tyler, but as his friend seeing him win again brings a big ole smile to my face!
Yes, Tyler won the stage of the Tour of Qinghai Lake today! Tour de France it's not, but with the way the Tour is going, I'm glad he's where he is.
And any of you who are going to poo-poo this win because of him "being a doper", look at it this way...he did his time out of racing (just like Mr. Loud, David Millar), he has a license to race and he's being tested. He won this race fair and square and I'm THRILLED!
And now he's in the Yellow Jersey!
Congratulations, Tyler!!!!!!!
You are a ROCK STAR!
7/19 - Update: According to Rock Racing's Twitter feed today, Tyler finished in the main field today. He retains the yellow jersey. More from Rock Racing's Twitter feed:
"Only Sunday's circuit race stands between Hamilton scoring his first overall victory in a stage race since the Tour de Romandie in 2004"

Announcing THE Bike to Work Book
I've been keeping this a secret for a couple of weeks now, but the official announcement has been made....my fellow Spokesmen and general cycling gurus, Carlton Reid and Tim Grahl are collaborating on a book that most people should get as soon as it is available - The Bike to Work Book.
The print version of the book will be out in November and will be American in spelling and such. However, there will be a downloadable version, too. And...get this, you will have the ability to have it localized with specifics to your region. How cool is that? I wouldn't expect anything less from Carlton and Tim, though.
You can check out podcasts from the guys as the book is being written, too. They are going to be busy, busy guys for the next couple of months. But, this will be an amazing reference book to have if you are going to bike to work or even are thinking of biking to work. There will be something in there for everyone - beginner to those who already ride to work. There's always more you can learn, extra tips that make the ride better. All of that will be included.
Congrats to Carlton and Tim! This is a great, great project!

Congrats Fredcast!
My fellow Spokesman, David Bernstein, not only does our little gig, but he's also the man behind The Fredcast Cycling Podcast. He's a talented guy and extremely knowledgeable about all things cycling.
His wildly popular Fredcast Cycling Podcast just hit the century mark! Yup, episode #100 is up and ready for your listening pleasure. He just finished it late last night. David says it's a bit long, but hey, it's the middle of cycling season AND the Tour Day France! It's chalk full of good stuff. Go give it a listen.
Congrats on the first century, David. Now get back in the saddle and start on the 2nd century! We are all looking forward to it!

BIG KRYPTONITE NEWS!
Yes, it's Opening Day at Fenway, but that's not the only big news in town today. Kryptonite has some pretty BIG...HUGE news of our own....we have a "new" general manager.
No, no, no...don't panic. SHE isn't so new at all....as a matter of fact, you all know HER....yes, there is a woman at the helm of Kryptonite now.....Ms. Karen Rizzo!
Karen's been with Kryptonite for 14 years and knows our business inside and out. She may be learning to sit in a new chair, but the industries we play in she knows very well.
We expect great things with Karen leading the charge. She's already made up her mind about a few things....but I'll let her say them in her own words....
“For the last 14 years, I’ve had the privilege to be a part of this dynamic brand. It is my intention to reclaim the spirit, the essence if you will, of the Kryptonite brand that everyone internally and externally loves so passionately. We will do that by hard work and reconnecting with our customers better than we have in a long while."
Perfectly said, don't cha think?
Congrats, Karen!

It's Official!!! Jody Perewitz is a member of Team Kryptonite!
As I inferred a little over a month ago...Ms. Jody Perewitz has now become an official member of Team Kryptonite!
We've been working with Jody in an "unofficial" capacity for a couple of years now, but it was time to make it official. There are some really cool things we'll be doing with Jody this year. More to come on that tomorrow.Karen says it best, "Our partnership with Jody will help us bring the message of security to an ever expanding audience that we may not have been successful at targeting before – the woman motorcycle rider. We all look forward to having a long relationship with Jody.”
So, yes this means y'all get more Jody on the blog, too!
If you'd like to meet Jody and welcome her to this crazy crew, she'll be at the Northeast Motorcycle Expo at the Bayside Expo Center in Boston this weekend. Details to the side here.
Welcome to the gang Jody! We're "wicked" glad you're on board.

Bob Roll, Velo Pasadena - A Pictorial
Remember our Interbike contest....Velo Pasadena won a ride with Team Kryptonite member Bob Roll. Well, Don Shipman, our regional manager in the west, gave us all a great post about the day he and Bob had at Velo Pasadena at the beginning of this month.
Angela, the owner's daughter, took a lot of photos during the day. Below are a few to get the feel of the day to compliment Don's words, but you can view all of the photos here. Enjoy!
Thanks to everyone who came out to meet Bob; we hope you all had a great time.

Bob signed autographs and chatted with folks that were on the ride and some that just stopped by. In all, about 300 people were hanging out at Velo Pasadena throughout the day.

Bob didn't travel with his bike so Velo Pasadena kindly provided him with one.
Here he's doing a few last minute adjustments before he's off with the group.
Don looks like he's all set to get out and enjoy a ride on a gorgeous Sunday morning!
There were about 150 people who joined Bob and Don on the ride.
Bob's all set to go!

Here's the front of the ride as they got going just a little ways from the shop.
I just love this shot. Looks like a pro peloton coming down the road.
Check it out. Everyone following the rules of the road
and stopping at the red light! Safety first!
Everyone seems to be having a good time.
According to Don, Hrach (store owner) moved around the group
often making sure everyone was riding comfortably and having a good time.
The ladies were out in full force for the ride, too. But...where's Bob?
There he is - with a bunch of new riding buddies.
And there he is again in a different part of the group.
And...with even more people. Looks like Hrach wasn't the only
one doing some meeting and greeting during the ride.
Bob, Tori and Hrach look like they are ready for some BBQ after the 20-miler!

A Happy Red Sox Nation
I couldn't make this up....
The way I wake up every morning is to my trusty alarm clock that I've had for seemingly forever - at least 20 years. They don't make things like they used to anymore...goodness, now I sound like one of my older relatives. But, I digress.
My alarm clock is set to wake me to WZLX every morning. This morning...I kid you not...it clicked on and I heard, "No time for losers, we are the champions...of the world." Yes, Freddie Mercury and Queen were how I learned that the Red Sox had swept the Colorado Rockies and won the world series. I went to be around 10pm last night and figured they would either win or not...but they would eventually win the series. That much I had faith in - seriously, 3-0 before last night? And, yes I stayed up until 1am on Saturday night to watch that win. How about that Jacoby kid? He's someone to watch as the years go by. And wacky, wonderful Papelbon? Gotta love him. But, last night was a "school night", as they say.

Congrats to all bleary eyed fans in Red Sox Nation - here's a fun montage that Boston.com put to music that a friend, and huge Red Sox fan, sent to me first thing this morning. Good stuff.
The only question now is....when will we see Papelbon's World Series dance? He said he'll dance when he's in Boston. We're waiting....
Update: The World Champion Boston Red Sox will arrive back in Boston around 3:30pm today. Their rolling parade and celebration are scheduled for tomorrow in downtown Boston. The Dropkick Murphys will be there on a flatbed....and Papelbon will dance according to Mayor Menino. Rock on, Jonathan!

Congrats Red Sox!
Oh boy, there are some tired faces and bleary eyes in the office this morning. Happy faces, though. If you live in another part of the world or don't follow baseball at all, the Boston Red Sox won game 7 last night of the divisional championships and are off to the World Series later this week. Ok, well they aren't exactly 'off' anywhere as game 1 is right here in Fenway Park. Or, if you are from Bah-stun, it's "Fenway Paak".
I've lived in Massachusetts my whole life and for my whole life (except one fluke year), the Red Sox have disappointed thousands each fall. I have a theory this year....Mother Nature hasn't seen fit to give us fall yet. It was in the upper 70s all weekend and for game time it was in the mid-to-high 60s. See? The Red Sox don't think it's fall...they still think it's summer. And that's a good thing for Red Sox fans. Wednesday night for game 1? It will be in the upper 60s...I predict a Red Sox win for that game.
That's my theory and I'm sticking to it. Provided the weather stays summer-like, the Sox should do ok and prove that '04 wasn't a fluke at all....
So, congratulations to the Red Sox and their legion of loyal fans including those right here at Kryptonite!

Congrats to Andy Zalan - 2007 Markus Cook Award Winner
Congrats to our friend Andy Z down in DC - he's the recipient of the prestigious Markus Cook Award this year. The official press release from the IFBMA is below because they can say it much better than I.....
Congrats Andy from all of your friends here at Kryptonite!
The International Federation of Bicycle Messenger Associations (IFBMA) is pleased to announce that Washington DC messenger Andy Zalan has been awarded the 2007 Markus Cook Award. The Cook Award is given annually to bike messengers who best represent the camaraderie and community spirit of the international messenger community. In the past year, Andy set up the Destination Dublin race series in Washington that enabled several DC messengers to travel to the Cycle Messenger World Championships in Dublin , Ireland . His annual bike messenger calendar is a tribute to those who work day in and day out.
However, beyond Andy¢s accomplishments of the last year, lies a decade long history of community advocacy and bridge building among American and European messengers. Andy is one of the founders of the District of Columbia Bike Couriers Association, one of the first organizers of alleycat racing in Washington and he brought the world to his city as host of the
1998 Cycle Messenger World Championships. Andy has been instrumental to the continued success of the CMWC and is a critical component of the international messenger community. In his nomination for the award, veteran Swiss messenger, Luk Keller accurately summed up the international messenger community¢s appreciation of Andy Zalan: "He never loses the spirit. He unites every aspect of what I like about messengers (he¢s uncomplicated, he can race, he can party, he's good-looking, he's smart, friendly, badass...helpful) and by being the way he is he unites the messenger mob with the messenger snob."
With all this in mind, the IFBMA and previous Markus Cook Award winners are pleased to welcome Andy to the list of winners.

Future NYC Bike Rider
A future bicycle rider if ever there was one
Kevin "Squid" Bolger has been a bike messenger in New York City for 15 years. Pretty much everyone involved with the messenger community knows him. He's also been interviewed countless times on television whenever a strong rider and fun person is needed for a comment on cycling or messengering in NYC. He's married to one fantastic lady and talented photographer, Amy Bolger, and together they are extremely active in the messenger community worldwide.
This weekend they expanded their family and welcomed their son Keiran Wolf Bolger. Hope they don't mind, but I snatched the above photo from Kevin's website.
Bravo, Amy! Congrats and good wishes to the Bolger family from all of your friends at Kryptonite.

Perewitz Open House
Saturday was a nice, spring day here in Massachusetts. A little chilly and a little cloudy, but the sun did break through during the day so it was a nice day for a ride. Hundreds of motorcyclists took advantage of the early season good weather and headed down to Perewitz Cycle Fabrication to join in the fun and festivities at their Open House. As I mentioned, part of the Kryptonite crew was there, too.
Motorcycles were everywhere....
Kryptonite's Tim Clifford with Jack, kids and their new treasure. Shortly afterwards, Jack jumped on his other two wheels and took his prize home.
There were free hotdogs, sodas and bags of popcorn, music, airbrush tattoos, prizes tossed from the roof, raffles, doggies and lots and lots of motorcycles of every variety parked in front of the store. For those that came out, it was a great day.
Kryptonite raffled off one of Dave Perewitz's custom painted trashcans with all of the money going to the National MS Society (a charity near and dear to the Perewitz family). The can was won by Jack M. who was one of their first service customers when they moved to this building. But, on this day he didn't arrive on his motorcycle, he arrived with his friend and kids on their bicycles! We see that often, actually - the crossover with motorcycles and bicycles.
It was a fun day at the Perewitz kick off to the summer riding season. Here are some photos taken during the day. Enjoy!
Motorcycles were everywhere....
Every make and model you could think of.....
Being a family affair there were lots of kids on bicycles, too, including these next to the burnout pad...
Airbrush tattoos were a huge hit. Here some young, future riders show off their love of motorcycles. Even the Perewitz clan had some fun with the temporary tattoos.
And the winner is....Jack M! Congrats!

Congrats to A&F Pro Development Team
A belated congratulations to Mark Hekman, Abercrombie & Fitch Team, for winning the Athens Twilight Criterium this past weekend. If you haven't heard all about it, Masiguy is shouting it from the rooftops. Why? Because they ride Masis, of course. And, because he's been caught up in the pure excitement of the win for this young team. It's nice to see in this day and age of doom and gloom in the pro cycling ranks.
Thank you, one and all, for the ray of sunshine guys! Keep up the good work.
